The Best Wedding Invitations of Ojai Valley Inn
Same venue and 4 unique wedding invitation

Just north of Los Angeles, lies a quaint idyllic town called Ojai, home of a beautiful lush wedding venue, Ojai Valley Inn. The Spanish inspired architecture resort is picturesque with its white walls, blue pattern tiles, and terra cotta rooftops. Tucked inside the resort are various spaces for weddings and other special celebrations. The spaces I often find myself in are the Orchard Lawn and the beautiful dark toned Farmhouse.
Over the years, I have designed many custom wedding invitation pieces for couples getting married at Ojai Valley Inn. And each time, it is a new design with new concepts, a new approach, and a new experience—after all, each couple has their own unique love story and their invitations reflect just that. Three of these suites have a similar color palette but with the use of artwork and typography selections, we created a design that evoked different messages based on the couple’s wedding aesthetics.
The first suite designed for Maddie and Jayson is focused on highlighting the venue. We incorporated citrus artwork on the envelope liner and created custom graphics inspired by the architecture of Ojai Valley Inn. They wanted invitations to be fun yet still modern and clean. Green was their main color and we pulled in the beige as a complimentary color. They decided not to have too many colors going on and wanted it to still be on the more monochrome side, hence the single color letterpress printing.
Next up, a suite with a similar color palette for Kelley and Berto. They too wanted to have green as the primary color and wanted to pull in another color. We decided on blue since their palette focused on soft, pastel colors. They wanted the wavy edges but were concerned it would make the suite turn out too playful. To balance this out, we went with a font that was modern, clean, and not at all whimsical or quirky. The custom illustration was provided by their best man.
Being a fan of bright, bold colors, Arleen and Eric’s invitation has become one of my favorites from the batch of Ojai Valley Inn weddings. As a fellow Asian American, their wedding felt more dear to me as they wanted to incorporate Arleen's Chinese heritage into their designs, while also playing off of the citrus theme surrounding Ojai. We decided to include the Chinese character for double good luck as a wax seal detail and in red, which symbolizes prosperity and celebrations—traditionally, Chinese brides wear red on their wedding day. When they told me they wanted to incorporate citrus colors, I already had the perfect yellow orange envelope color in mind. I was ecstatic when they had a positive reaction to the color palette I presented.
And last to round up, the Ojai Valley Inn suites: my very first one for this venue. This one drew inspiration from the Spanish tiles. Green continues to be a favorite to have in the color palette and Brooke and Ryan's invitation suite even includes a beige similar to Maddie and Jayson's suite. However, with a skilled designer, given similar concepts—beige and green color palette and using Spanish architecture as inspiration—means a different design that is catered around what best represents each couple and their wedding vision.
As a designer, it is up to us to learn what is important to each of our wedding couples and to learn what it is they want their wedding details to convey. These invitations were all for the same venue and some even have similar concepts but the final product are all very different and unique, just like each couple. No two couples are the same. Their wedding invitations shouldn't be either.
